I wrote about random blue screen error message in my previous post when the random blue screen error message appear when one of my friend overclocked his processor. Another main factor that can cause random blue screen error message would be a faulty Random Access Memory (RAM) module. Even though the percentage of a RAM module became faulty is low, it does happen once in a while.
Most of motherboard nowadays integrate SPD (Serial Presence Detect) for RAM module speed setting in their motherboard, it is advisable to set the RAM module frequency to your default RAM module.
Serial Presence Detect (SPD) refers to a standardized way to automatically access information about a RAM module. It is the serial version of Parallel Presence Detect (PPD).
Sometimes SPD (Serial Presence Detect) can misconfigured the appropriate value for your RAM module, thus causing random blue screen error message. Usually, random blue screen error message caused by faulty RAM will appear when your Windows load, or during Windows operation.
If you encounter random blue screen error message after installing a new RAM module, make sure you do a quick check on your system BIOS on the RAM module setting. Random blue screen error message caused by faulty RAM module will disappear after the faulty RAM module is changed, or the RAM module setting are reset back to default.

Hello, Ive been gaming with a 1 gig ram stick for a while. I was running on 256 then bought the new stick. I was playing for about a month and never had any problems. only recently has it been making my PC freeze and causing Bluescreen errors. I take it out and put my old 256mb ram stick back and the PC runs fine again.
Is there anyway to get my newly bought ram stick to work like it use to?

I also forgot to mention that when my PC starts up with the 1gig ram stick in it, it displays 256mb ram but wen i check my computer properties, it shows i have 1 gig of ram

Hi Newbie.
My suggestion would be try running the PC with only the new 1GB RAM stick without the 256MB stick, then see if you still get the bluescreen error. This is to make sure that the 1GB RAM stick is causing the problem.

Hi, yea it does that when only that 1gig ram stick is in. I was hoping there would be a way to fix it. Is there something you must do in bios settings after you put the ram in? Coz I didnt do that and I read something about you must do that to make it your default memory… I dunno as Im not so clued up on computers.
Thnx for the quick response

If there is 2 DIMM slot (the RAM slot) on the Motherboard, the biggest capacity RAM must be in the first slot, follow by lesser capacity RAM. So in your case, the 1GB RAM is in the first slot, and 256MB in the second slot.
In the BIOS CMOS settings, try to put both RAM on SPD.
It might not be your 1GB RAM that is causing the error, your Operating System (Microsoft Windows) can be the culprit too.
