Today one of my worstation desktop gave me a problem. Everytime the desktop in turn on, there is a beep beep sound, and there are on the monitor.

The problem when booting is one of the common and complicated problem in troubleshooting computer. Usually the problem when booting can be associated with several major problem with the computer, such as faulty motherboard, faulty graphic card, faulty RAM Module, mostly .

In this case, the beep beep sound when booting gave me the idea of what is causing the problem when booting.

Most of the motherboard nowadays will give a beep beep sound the there is a problem with the RAM Module. And in my case, the culprit is the RAM module.

It seems that the RAM module has oxidized a little bit, and this is causing minimal contact or no contact with the RAM Slot module, which give the desktop workstation a when booting the computer.

A quick fix this problem with beep sound caused by the RAM Module is simple.

Get yourself a rubber pencil eraser, and clean the contact point of the RAM Module (bronze color). Make sure to use gentle force when cleaning. After cleaning, make sure that there are no remaining residues of the eraser remain on the RAM Module.

Install the RAM module back into the RAM module slot.

This is one of the solution for the when booting problem.

Some of the motherboard manufacturer has equipped their motherboard with different beep signal to indicate what are causing the beep and the problem. This usually goes for high end motherboard.

Computer cannot boot after installing new Hard Disk Drive

Today one of my affliate computer cannot boot after installing a new Hard Disk Drive.

The specification for the computer are a decent old Intel Celeron 2.4Ghz (socket 478) with 256MB DDR333 PC2700 RAM. She use the computer to run a cyber cafe server monitoring software to monitor client in her cyber cafe. The new Hard Disk Drive is an old Maxtor DiamondMax plus with 40GB capacity and was installed as a second Hard Disk Drive.

After installing the second Hard Disk Drive, the system failed to boot, and hang after detecting boot device, sometimes the system would hang during Windows XP loading screen.

By doing several diagnostic, I found out the main culprit which is causing the computer cannot boot after installing the new hard disk drive is the Power Supply unit. It seems that the old Power Supply Unit cannot cope up with the resource required by the second hard disk drive.

The problem was solved immediately after replacing the old power supply unit which is causing the computer cannot boot after installing the new hard drive with a new Power Supply Unit.
